This time I went up higher on the screen and installation this time picked up and read disk 2, which I think may have happened last time. Before I would choose the next option below.which was to configure grub and it kept failing. After the INSTALL SOFTWARE failure you get a blue Desktop or screen. I did another install and got the same message on a different HD. Then whe I reboot I can install all the updates and rerun apt-get update and everything is fine again. But I skip the installing packages all togeather. I install grub first and then go back and setup my repositories. I recomend also skiping setting up the repository too as this will cause the same error when you goto install grub or lilo. One way around this is to skip installing packages. Debian recently updated the GPG keys and it causes athenication of packages to fail during the install. FrankĪbsent Minded wrote:It sounds like you need a more recent disk. Not sure what to enter but no error messages yet at this point. Seems ok so far, expert screen with a # root prompt waiting for me. It did not let me install grub without installing the "base system:ħ:50 edit. Ps.it went into reboot as if the installation was complete this time, but failed as noted above.ħ:40 edit. I entered my password than typed fsck and I got simlilar error message. It gives you option to run fsck manually. It went to reboot, had me remove installation CD. I got further this time, I thought I had solved problem. Just remember to install Grub before you activate the repositories or it will still fail. Just accept all the defaults and then skip installing the packages and setting up the repositories.

You can still do the automatic partitioning if you wish. Until the CD died completly, one death i did not lament,, FrankĪbsent Minded wrote:Hi Frank, I use the expert mode it is under the advanced menu. Problem Solved, it was the CDrom drive, at the end, boot was slowing down, anything requiring cd was slowing down. I am not sure if I tried dual booting at one time on this HD. My question is how come I can install Vector linux and Red Hat, but Not Debian, or windows xp ,on this maxtor HD? Also on another HD with same computer Debian is installed successfully. Failing same, select and install software.

"you can try to run the failing item from menu now". "running post installation trigger man-db. I am now trying again to install Lenny on top of Red Hat. I then tried to install win xp.that stalled on format as did win 98. I tried goind down the line to see If I could install other options, those failed too.

I am doing another debian installation, same computer on another HD that previously had Vector linux.
